One of our clients came up with a fantastic e-Learning blended solution. The solution resulted in 97% of all learners completing all their e-learning? eCourse modules.

What the client did was start each eCourse with a webinar. The webinar set the goals for the eCourse module and gave the overview. Participants got clear on what they were to learn and how they would apply the learnings.

Learners then had two weeks to complete their e-Learning eCourses, developed using the PeakSkills authoring tools and deployed through the PeakSkills LMS. Their eCourse progress was totally self-paced. Participants were instructed to print their action plans and journal entries, included as part of each e-Learning eCourse.

After the two weeks were up, the learners met online at a second webinar. They discussed their action plans and journal entries, and submitted them to their instructor, to be used as part of their performance reviews. Then on to prepare for the next eCourse module.

This highly successful blended e-Learning solution is being used successfully in Fortune 500 companies with middle managers. It can easily be applied to most e-learning situations.

E-Learning Blog: Successful e-Learning eCourses

What is the goal of learning and e-learning? To create relatively permanent change in a person’s mind and/or behavior so that their performance improves in a desired direction.

What changes internally as the person learns? Neurons in the brain actually grow toward each other to create new circuitry, representing the new learning. At the tip of the neurons, the neuro-transmitter chemicals change so that the electrical activity in the learning circuit is faciliated. This translates into effective learning, remembering and performance improvement.

How to use e-Learning to create those changes in the brain and subsequent changes in the mind and behavior, resulting in performance improvement? In order to create the required changes in the relatively permanent long-term store or memory of the brain, new information has to move from short-term store or memory into the long-term store. That process of successful movement from short-term to long-term store is called ENCODING.

Encoding takes time,?sometimes up to three weeks. To facilitate the encoding process, consider the following factors:

1. Practice, practice and more practice keeps the new learning in a temporary store while the new neural coding representing the learning is developing.

2. Breaking learning down into tiny steps helps the learning process.

3. Organizing the material within a framework accelerates encoding.

4. Stories that arouse emotions facilitate the encoding process.

5. Any type of active learning such as: rewriting the material in your own words, choosing the right answer, assessing? yourself regarding the material, answering questions and writing examples all help the encoding process.
